In its June meeting, the City of Germantown voted to lower the speed limit for drivers entering and exiting town on Farmersville-Germantown Pike. The speed from the five-way intersection to the entrance of Ron Heights has been 35. The new ordinance moved the speed limit to 25.
The ordinance included public participation before the vote.

David Shortt presented a petition to Council signed by residents who live in that stretch of road. “The residents of Farmersville Pike matter. Their children and pets matter. The residents’ safety and quality of life matter,” he said.
Rebecca McCarty and Pam Bell, both residents of the Pike, also spoke in favor of the reduced speed.
Shortt and the other speakers noted that the road is hilly and includes blind spots. Council Member Bonnie Koogle shared her experience pulling out onto the Pike from Comstock Street.

After a brief discussion, Council passed the ordinance. Jeffrey Jones, Bonnie Koogle, Mayor Terry Johnson, and Brian Wafzig voted for the speed limit reduction. Rob Rettich voted no after saying he didn’t see the need for it. Council members Michael Kuhn and Rick Reed were not in attendance.
The City will be changing the signs in the coming weeks. The City reduced the speed on Cherry Street in December 2025. See Cherry St. Speed Limit Change
