The opportunity to walk in the same rooms as Orville Wright, Charles Lindbergh, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison is a short trip away. Dayton History offers twice weekly tours of the Wright Brothers 1914 mansion, Hawthorn Hill, in Oakwood.

The tour starts at Carillon Park where a comfortable bus that seats 15 people takes you right to the front door of Orville Wright’s home.

The tour, which lasts 1.5 hours, includes a guide who takes you to every room of the home. The tour features Orville’s all-original personal library.

Orville lived in the home for more than 30 years, originally with his father, Bishop Milton Wright and sister Katharine. The home was purchased by NCR in 1948, when Orville died. His brother Wilbur died before the home was complete and never lived there.

For decades, the home was used to house visiting executives for NCR. After the company left Dayton, the home was returned to the Wright Family and became part of Dayton History, the organization that runs Carillon Park.

Tours are available on Wednesdays and Saturdays for $16 per person. Note that the home is not accessible and the tour includes using a staircase. Book a ticket.
