Kathy Stubbs, owner of Farmersville Cafe and Farmer in the Deli in Germantown, has been feeding local children for the past eight summers.
Her summer lunch program, funded by donations and assisted by area churches, helps 75-80 kids a week in Farmersville and more than 100 a week in Germantown.
The free lunches started Tuesday, June 2, in both locations and are available Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 am-noon until school starts.

“We decided we wanted to give something back, but we’ve never been able to out-donate the community,” Stubbs said. In an interview, Stubbs said they fed 10,000 meals during the pandemic when schools were closed. But every time she thought she might run out of supplies, a van or car would pull up and unload enough donated food to keep them going.
The current program is funded by Stubbs and from the tip jars she keeps at both businesses. The Valley View Ministerium recently donated $1,000 as part of its ongoing work to support initiatives that help those who are food insecure in the community.

“We didn’t know how this was going to go on this summer,” Stubbs said during the check presentation. “This money will keep us going.”
Churches in Farmersville and Germantown help feed the children and provide crafts and stories. This week, Farmersville United Methodist Church and St. John’s United Church of Christ provided volunteers.
