Slifers Presbyterian Church is a small, casual church with gorgeous stained glass windows and a congregation that loves to sing hymns and boasts a handbell choir open to all levels. The church welcomes visitors and new members.
Located at the corner of Clayton and Chicken Bristle Roads, the congregation has had fun with its unique address, creating a “Chicken Bristle” cookbook of favorite recipes—chicken and otherwise. No one at the church is quite sure what a chicken bristle actually is, but it starts conversations about the fun, friendly and casual approach of having a rural church.

History
Slifers Church was founded in 1819 thanks to a donation of land by Philip and Elizabeth Slifer, who are buried next to the church. The church served Lutheran and Reformed congregations for decades, with services in German for the first 100 years.
In the 1960s, the congregation voted to become Presbyterian, built a manse to house its pastors, added a Sunday school wing, and purchased land across the street that they call the 8 Acres.
Slifers was awarded a historical marker from Ohio History Connection during its 200th anniversary in 2019.
