According to the Ohio Department of Commerce, more U.S. scams now start on social media than on any other platform. People ages 70 and older report higher median losses when they do lose money.

Top fraud types reported by Ohioans include identity theft, imposter scams and fraud involving credit bureaus or information furnishers.

The Department of Commerce recommends that Ohioans be skeptical of unsolicited calls, texts, emails, or social media messages that ask for personal or financial information.
