A coalition of Farmersville school alumni, led by Sherry Wallace, has saved the cornerstone from the recently demolished Farmersville school with plans to build a memorial at Depot Pointe Park.

The group, which includes the Farmersville Area Business Association, the Farmersville Historical Society and the Village, has collected building bricks and a shield from the front of the school to incorporate into the memorial, which may take the shape of a bench.

The memorial to the school will be placed at Depot Pointe Park, across from Brubaker Grain in Farmersville.

As of Tuesday, the building and gym were demolished. Trucks from Big Daddy & Son Trucking of Dayton and Landis Trucking of Farmersville are hauling away debris from the site.

Free bricks are periodically available outside the fence for anyone who would like to have a piece of the former school.
