At the June meeting of the Valley View Board of Education, Stephanie Smith stepped in as Board president due to the early resignation of former president Tim Rudd.
“In accordance with policy, the current Vice President, Dr. Stephanie Smith, immediately
assumes the role of Board President to ensure seamless leadership continuity and
direction,” Valley View said in a statement.
Updates to the process to replace Rudd shared by the District note that Rudd’s replacement will be sworn in at the July meeting and that the candidate will serve until December 31, 2027 (NOT 2026 as previously shared by the District).

New president Stephanie Smith at the June Board meeting
“This is my first night sitting as Board president,” Smith said at the June meeting. “I really want to thank Tim Rudd. He was a great Board member. We all ran together, him, Skidmore and I did, and we've grown a lot through the years together.”
“Didn't always agree on everything, but he really dedicated a lot of time and energy into being an excellent board president. So I want to thank him for that.”
Rudd’s Departure
Rudd initially resigned from the Board during executive session of the May 11 meeting. In a public Facebook post, he stated that his last meeting would be July 13. His resignation was tied to his decision to move away from the school district.
On June 5, he posted, “An opportunity to move 300 meters from my office opened up less than 2 weeks ago and so we took it and moved within 6 days. That is why my July 13 resignation from the school board became an immediate exit. Depending on who you are, I’m sorry and you’re welcome.”

School District Schedule
On Monday, June 8 Valley View issued a press release about the Board vacancy referencing the “accelerated relocation of former member Tim Rudd.”
The District provided a number of updates to its previous timeline, while adding some detail to the process. Applications to fill Rudd’s role for the rest of 2026, through 2027, were due June 8.
Valley View announced they will hold a special board meeting June 29 to conduct interviews “with qualified replacement candidates” and vote at that meeting. It is expected that this meeting will largely happen in executive session.
The school also announced that the new board member will be sworn in at the July 13 meeting, a month earlier than initially planned.
The new board member added in July will serve until December 31, 2027, an update from the school’s initial announcement. Valley View will hold an election in November 2027 for a candidate to fill the rest of Rudd’s term, which is set to expire December 31, 2029.
In its announcement, the District stated, “Valley View is grateful for Mr. Tim Rudd's service and dedication, and wishes the Rudds the best in their new location.”
The Board adjourned to executive session in the June meeting to “consider the appointment of a public official.”
Current Board
Rudd, Smith, and former superintendent Joe Scholler ran unopposed in November 2025 and were elected to terms that expire in December 2029.
Board members Tyson Dillon and Chevella Griffith are in the middle of terms that expire in December 2027.
With this adjusted schedule, the community will select three board members in the November 2027 election, rather than two.

Rudd’s Last Message
It remains to be seen how active Rudd will remain in local affairs and on the Valley View Spartans Germantown & Farmersville Ohio Facebook group, where he has been a frequent contributor. Comments about his initial resignation were met with much support and appreciation from community members. Those who voiced otherwise were called “moron” and “jackwagon” by Rudd.

In Rudd’s June 5 message, he shared his plans to return to the community: “Can’t wait to get back to Valley View. When I come back in a few years, I’m bringing a law firm with me (the City of Germantown and Valley View Local School District will get some serious revenue). Just have some work to do in the meantime and I’m always going to consider this community my home. Until then, I appreciate and will miss you all (except for some of you).”
