Valley View 6th and 7th grade art students, led by teacher Jessica Evans, have recreated Germantown historic buildings creatively in a program titled, “The Way We Were.” The program is a collaboration with the Germantown Historical Society, the Germantown Public Library and is supported by the Lions Club.
The top 25 art pieces, one for each featured building, are on display at the Germantown Library. The community is invited to vote for their favorite piece. The student with the most community votes will receive an additional award.
Students and their parents will be honored at a reception on May 16, where the winner of the community-voted award will be announced.

The collaboration with the school and the Historical Society dates back a decade. A sign at the library display says, “The winners are featured here to show the community the students’ hard work and recreation of the old images of Germantown’s yesteryear and adapted to the students’ new flair and perspective.”
