Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith spoke during the Valley View Board of Education September meeting and shared information about the new one-time Homestead Exemption Bonus Credit available to qualifying homeowners.
“I appreciate the Valley View Board of Education inviting me to talk about what we are seeing in the real estate market and to answer questions about property values,” Keith said. “These conversations also give us an important opportunity to make sure residents know about programs that can help provide property tax relief, including the new one-time Homestead Exemption bonus.”
The State of Ohio has authorized a one-time bonus credit for homeowners receiving the Homestead Exemption. The Auditor’s Office estimates that the additional credit will provide approximately $450 to $500 in additional property tax relief and will appear on first-half property tax bills in 2027.
Homeowners who are already enrolled in the Homestead Exemption program do not need to take any action to receive the bonus. However, eligible homeowners who are not currently enrolled must apply by Oct. 23, 2026, to receive the one-time bonus credit.
The Homestead Exemption provides property tax relief to qualifying homeowners, including Ohioans age 65 and older and those who are permanently and totally disabled; applicants are subject to an income means test.
“Our office is working to get this information directly into the community, so eligible homeowners do not miss out on this additional relief,” Keith said. “If you think you may qualify for the Homestead Exemption, now is the time to reach out to our office and apply.”
Residents with questions about the Homestead Exemption can contact the Montgomery County Auditor’s Homestead Hotline at 937-225-4341.
