The City of Germantown notified residents in December that it is changing its municipal income tax service provider from the Central Collection Agency (CCA) to the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA).

City residents and those who work in the City owe 1.5% income tax and will need to file at RITA’s online site. The City does offer credit for tax paid to other municipalities.

The RITA website states individuals under 18 years of age are exempt from paying Germantown income tax.

The City tax department website provides the following benefits of filing with this new system:

RITA’s website provides an accurate, secure, and free service to file and pay your income tax. The benefits of filing through RITA’s e-File system include:

  • Simple step-by-step entry of tax information

  • Automated calculation of tax due or overpayment

  • Immediate confirmation of completed filing upon submission

  • Credit or debit card, or ACH electronic payments are accepted

  • Ability to file early and delay ACH payment

The City recommends residents allow several days to create and activate their accounts. Taxpayers will be unable to e-file their return and make payments until the activation is complete.
