The Historical Society of Germantown hosted its annual open house on Sunday, May 3.

The community event featured free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks, along with popcorn by Mary Ann Recker.

The open house, which featured displays inside the Historical Society and on the lawn outside, included a number of artists demonstrating their talents.

The Veterans Memorial Museum had a 1943 World War II jeep on display. The jeep has been outfitted to represent a vehicle used by the 517th Signal Company, 17th Airborne Division. Vehicles like this one were used with assault gliders that dropped from planes with the jeep and soldiers inside. See Museum Collection Honors Veterans

Nick and Amanda Smith used their chainsaw talents to create a Germantown lion and a family of owls. Both sold at auction at the end of the event.

Debbie Simpkins and her dulcimer band performed in the museum.

Dr. Mark Judy shared how sugar maple syrup is made.

Don Flory educated attendees on honey bee hives and honey production.

The Historical Society is planning a Founders Weekend celebration July 31-Aug. 2.
