A historic Bible from the founding family of Germantown will be on display at the Germantown Public Library. The Gunckel Bible dates to the 1700s and was brought to America by early German immigrants.
Gunckel Family Bible from 1700s
The Gunckel Bible, which has recently been professionally preserved, was donated to the Library decades ago by the family.
In partnership with the Germantown Historical Society, the Library will host a historical presentation on the Gunckel family and the Bible on Wednesday, August 19 at 6 pm.

The Bible is entirely in German and features a section with the writings of Martin Luther.
Copies of lithographs from the Gunckel Bible
The Bible also includes multiple detailed lithographs depicting stories from the Old Testament, including Noah’s Ark, the Tower of Babel and the Golden Calf.
