The Germantown Lions Club was started in 1953 and is an integral part of life in the community, from Friday night burgers at Niswonger Field to the Memorial Day remembrance and the annual Easter egg hunt.
The Lions Club has a membership of 55 men and women who have a willingness to serve the Valley View community to meet its needs. The Lions Club motto is "WE SERVE."
Focused on Service
The Germantown Lions are a member of Lions Clubs International, which is the largest service organization in the world with nearly 1.5 million members and thousands of clubs in over 200 countries. The Lions main goals are: blindness prevention, vision improvement, diabetes research, pediatric cancer research, disaster relief, environmental improvement, food pantry donations, and scholarships.

The Lions Club philosophy is that all the money raised during fundraising projects is given back to the community, state, nation, and international projects. The Club’s approach is “Our joy comes from doing something for the betterment of our community or an individual who is in need.”
How to Join
Germantown Lions meet on the second and fourth Mondays from September to June. Anyone who has an interest in joining this very active organization to improve the community is invited to contact membership chairperson: Harold Bowman, 937-479-6626.

Community Impact
The Lions are a very active group. The following are a few of the projects the organization participates in:
Lions sponsor the Twisted Pretzel Bike Tour on the first morning of the Germantown Pretzel Festival(4 different length rides). All the money raised is given to local food pantries and other community organizations.
For 40 years, the Lions have sponsored the Valley View Community Easter Egg Hunt at Kercher Park the day before Easter each year.
Lions sponsor the Annual Memorial Day observance at Veterans Memorial Park.
They award $11,000 in scholarships each year to Valley View High School graduates.
Lions donate 50 Christmas gift bags to residents of Astoria Health and Rehab each December.
They participate in Wreaths Across America each December by putting Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans at Germantown Union Cemetery.
The Lions donated money to help purchase the new American Liberty Elm tree at the entrance of Germantown Union Cemetery.
They prepare meals for the residents of Ronald McDonald House at Dayton Children's Hospital once a month.
Lions honor sixth graders by presenting them with the "GOOD" citizenship award.

For more than 70 years, the Lions have donated well over $2 million to fund building projects, scholarships, food pantries, community needs, and local school projects.
