A pair of classrooms in the old high school is home to a resource that many in the community may have missed. The Valley View Clothing Closet offers clothing, shoes, boots and accessories for children and adults during monthly free shopping nights.

The Clothing Closet is open to all Valley View families and local residents. No registration or proof of need is required.

The next event is Tuesday, Feb. 3 and Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 4-6pm. The Clothing Closet is located on the second floor of the old high school. Enter through the YMCA or gym doors to access the building.

A group of community volunteers, including a team from Farmersville United Methodist Church, sort and display the donated clothing and items. The volunteers work to make the experience similar to shopping in a boutique, with clothing racks and outfit displays.

Volunteer Lisa Foote said the Clothing Closet is part of a broader effort, spurred by a visioning exercise hosted by the school a few years ago. This includes working with the community to provide wrap-around support for students and families, beyond academics. “When you are comfortable and have the right clothing, it makes learning easier,” she said.

Foote said another goal of the Clothing Closet is to “normalize used clothes to keep them out of landfills.” We can assist people who may need help, but anyone is welcome to visit and take some items. “The environmental impact is important,” she noted.

Shopping nights are usually the first Tuesday and Wednesday of the month from 4-6pm.

Stay up-to-date with the Valley View Clothing Closet on their Facebook page. Volunteers will host private shopping nights for those who cannot attend the regular shopping events. The best way to schedule is via the Facebook page.

Donations of clean, gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories like purses and backpacks are welcome. They can be dropped off during shopping nights.
