The Village of Farmersville has added a new sign to its bulk water station on Farmersville Road to honor longtime water hauler Matt DeGroat Sr. DeGroat died at age 57 in December 2025 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was the founder of DeGroat Water Hauling, which he operated for 32 years.
In a statement, the Village said, “The Village of Farmersville is proud to recognize the legacy of Matt DeGroat and DeGroat Water Hauling with the placement of the “Matt DeGroat Sr. Way” sign at our bulk water station.”

The statement from the Village continued, “As one of the most active users of our bulk water station, Matt became a familiar and respected part of daily life around town. His dedication to his customers, strong work ethic, and commitment to serving others left a lasting impression on many in our community.”
“We hope this sign serves as a meaningful tribute to the impact Matt had on Farmersville and the surrounding area through years of hard work, relationships, and service.”

DeGroat’s Water Hauling continues to operate in Farmersville, Germantown and surrounding areas.

His widow Jenny responded to the new sign on Facebook, saying, “Thank you Village of Farmersville for capturing Matt's spirit so perfectly, this is truly a blessing, his legacy lives on.”
DeGroat was the son of Cathy and the late Dale R. DeGroat. He was a 1988 graduate of Valley View High School.
