In honor of the America 250 celebration this summer, both Farmersville and Germantown are planning extras for their July 4th festivities.

Stars, Stripes and Small Town Pride

Farmersville is planning a street festival for Sunday, July 5 that will include a market, food trucks, community booths and a beer truck.

The event will feature entertainment on the main stage all day, culminating with a concert by the band Britches Down, a Dayton area country band.

The event will end as night falls with the Big Boom for Bryston Fireworks, in memory of Bryston Keating.

The Farmersville Fire Association is selling event t-shirts as a fundraiser. Orders can be placed online and are due by June 21 for pickup at the event.

A number of food vendors and local businesses are planning to participate, including Jerry’s Meat Market, Village Inn and The Grounds Coffee House.

Food trucks and booths include The Dirty Fizz Soda Shack, Family Treasures by Rita and Kristi, Joyful Crafts, The Teal Chicken, The Big Squeeze Lemonade Co, Crafts & Candles, CLNC Bakehouse, Artistic Etch Works, Five Sprouts Garden, Hatcher Scents. Wood B’s Custom Woodworking and many more.

Churches and community groups are also planning booths, including a kids craft area by Slifers Presbyterian Church.

Early sponsors include the Farmersville Area Business Association (FABA), Center Street Events, Moore Sewer Services, The Mulligan Club, Twin Valley Bank,
Elite Iron and Village Inn. The Village is still accepting sponsorships at the levels noted below.

“If the weather is not cooperative on July 5th, the festival will be postponed by one week,” said Village Council member Crystal Lohn in a statement. “We are all hoping for beautiful weather, but as we all know, Ohio weather can be unpredictable, and we felt it was important to have a backup plan in place.”

July 4th Parade

Germantown is making updates to its annual Independence Day parade this year. The City is encouraging creative ideas for parade floats and groups by creating a new awards program.

The new awards include a Mayor’s Choice Award and a Crowd Favorite Award that will be voted online. The Red, White and WOW award will recognize the parade entry with the most energy and audience appeal. The Best Youth Entry Award will recognize the top young community participants.

The City is also asking parade participants to pre-register to help coordinate communication. Organizations that do not register will NOT be turned away, community relations manager Will Parsons noted at the June Village Council meeting.
