In a resolution read at the meeting, Trustee Jake Stubbs outlined McClain’s many contributions to the community over the years.

“Bob McClain has demonstrated an extraordinary lifetime of service and dedication to the residents of German Township and the broader Valley View community,” Stubbs noted.

McClain served as a German Township Trustee for 16 years and as a member of Germantown Council. He served as a board member of the Historical Society of Germantown and chaired the Germantown Parks Board and the Senior Center Oversight Committee.

He also served as president of the Germantown Swimming Pool Association during the planning and construction of the pool and later served as president of VV BASE while also coaching numerous youth baseball teams and leading the effort to construct and improve baseball fields at Kercher Community Park.

The vision for Veterans Memorial Park came from McClain and he led the construction of the Lions Club Gazebo and the relocation of the historic depot and toll house.

McClain provided leadership to community youth as Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 409. He also led the development of the Twin Creek Disc Golf Course.

“The Board extends its heartfelt appreciation to Mr. McClain for his many contributions to local government, parks and recreation, historic preservation, youth athletics, community development, and civic leadership,” the resolution concluded.

Past recipients of the Lifetime Service Award include retired Valley View principal and long-time member of the Germantown Lions Club, Frank Kozarec, and farmer and community volunteer Fred Glander, who was honored at the May 2024 meeting.
